New at Weber: Theatre Programming!

Weber is thrilled to introduce Elissa Marele, the new Artistic Director of Theatrical Education & Community Programming at The Weber School! With over two decades of experience in theatre education and direction, Elissa brings a wealth of knowledge and passion to our growing theatre program. Her extensive background includes a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Education from The University of South Florida and a Master of Education in Interdisciplinary Arts from Nova Southeastern University. Elissa’s impressive career has been marked by numerous awards, with alums who have become professional actors, directors, and composers in New York, Georgia, and Florida.

At Weber, Elissa is leading the expansion of our theatre programming, starting with establishing our very own Thespian Troupe #11825. The International Thespian Society (ITS) is the only theatre honor society for middle and high school students in the United States, and we are proud to bring this prestigious affiliation to our school. Under Elissa’s guidance, our students can participate in various theatre-related activities, including the Georgia Thespian Conference (ThesCon) at Columbus State University, where over 7,000 high school theatre enthusiasts participate in workshops, auditions, scholarships, and performance competitions.

In addition to these exciting developments, we proudly announce that The Weber School was awarded a prestigious grant from The Educational Theatre Foundation, The Music Man Foundation, and Music Theatre International to produce the new, revised version of The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Sophomore Kayla Furie initiated this grant, and Weber is one of only 30 schools nationwide to receive this honor. The production, set to run from March 30 - April 1, 2025, promises to be a vibrant and powerful telling of Molly Brown’s rags-to-riches story, highlighting her role as a champion of women’s rights, labor rights, and immigration reform.

Don’t miss your first opportunity to see our theatre students perform in our fall production of Pippin! Join us November 20-21, 2024, in the Tzadik Performing Arts Center for an unforgettable evening of theatre!
