Women in Sports

Weber’s newly formed Women in Sports club hosted its first major event, bringing together students and faculty to engage with two accomplished women in the field of sports: Ms. Lorain Price, Senior Associate Athletic Director for Academic Services at Indiana University Bloomington, and Dr. Brianna Ward, Director of Sport Psychology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The event marked an exciting step forward for the club, which aims to empower female athletes and foster important conversations about sports, mental health, and leadership.

 

Sophomore Sadie Kitey moderated the discussion alongside junior Hannah Cohen. Together, they asked thoughtful, pre-prepared questions that explored topics such as the mental health challenges faced by athletes, the unique experiences of women in sports, and strategies for balancing the pressures of academics and athletics. The panelists also shared personal stories about their journeys into the world of sports and the qualities they believe are essential for women aspiring to leadership roles in the field.

 

Athletic Director Riley Clark reflected on the event, highlighting the panel’s emphasis on mental health as a key takeaway. “I really liked how much they talked about mental health playing a huge part in an athlete’s success and the systems they have in place at their universities to help provide support,” Coach Clark shared. “It was inspiring to see our students take the lead in organizing such an impactful discussion.”
