Creating Historical Artifacts in the DZA

Students in Andrea Johnston's World History classes, inspired by their studies of civilizations across history, collaborated with The Daniel Zalik Academy (DZA) to blend historical learning with artistic expression. Students were challenged to craft a comprehensive identity for an empire of their creation, including its culture, history, political system, and a significant artifact representing their empire’s cultural essence.

The artifacts created were diverse and imaginative, ranging from flags to shields and homemade ships. These weren't just theoretical designs; students brought them to life using laser cutters for precise engraving and then hand-painted them using acrylic paints. The artifacts will be on display outside the DZA after winter break.
