Purimpalooza 5784!
Purimpalooza 5784 was a week to remember at The Weber School! Jews worldwide celebrated the fun-filled holiday of Purim, and our Student Council prepared a week of activities for students, faculty, and staff to celebrate the holiday and fulfill the Mitzvot of Purim.
Our creative Megill-ED Talks connected our faculty’s personal interests to the holiday, offering a diverse array of topics:
- Dungeons and Dragons and Hamantaschen brought a fantasy re-imagination of the Megillah to life.
- The Mask You Live In explored the masks we wear every day and the courage to embrace our true selves.
- Venahafochu delved into the Purim tradition of turning things upside down with interactive paper art.
- Purim in the Kitchen allowed students to make traditional Purim desserts, enhancing the holiday's culinary delights.
- Esther and Mordechai: A model for battling Anti-Semitism in 2024 examined the Book of Esther as a guide for navigating modern challenges.
- The Emperor's New Purim Costume discussed the role of clothing and costumes in self-expression.
- Adlo Yada? engaged students in a festive Purim Trivia Game.
- Empowering Women: Unveiling Hidden Heroes in Jewish Text celebrated the influential women of the Megillah.
- Purim Unscripted: Improv Inspired by the Megillah offered a unique improv class exploring the Purim story.
- Polymer Clay Hamentashen Earrings combined art and Purim memories in a creative workshop.
- Purimadness brought a mystery auction game of secret prizes to the celebration.
- Crafting Purim: The Art and Tradition of Making Graggers allowed students to create personalized noisemakers.
- Stitchin' to Celebrate introduced the art of embroidery through Purim groggers.
- Matanot L'evyonim: The Leven Office crafted Birthday Cake Boxes for a local food pantry.
But wait! There’s more! The Purim celebrations continued with:
- Purim Seudah (celebratory meal) brought the community together for a lunch filled with food, fun, and dancing, featuring live klezmer music by Party Express by Tevyah for the third consecutive year.
- Matanot La'evyonim (giving gifts to the needy) was observed through a school-wide clothing drive, and Mishloach Manot (giving gifts to others) was lead by the Weber Parents Group generously donating items for gift bags.
- And what would Purim be without costumes? Students embraced the spirit of Purim with themed dress-up days, including Music Merch Monday, Fire and Ice Tuesday, and Pink Out Wednesday.
Purimpalooza 5784 was a week filled with joy, laughter, and meaningful experiences. We can't wait to see what next year's celebration will bring!
