Physics First

Weber’s Physics First curriculum continues to spark curiosity as students dive into hands-on experiments that illustrate scientific concepts. In a recent classroom activity, students explored Nano Sand, a hydrophobic material that repels water, allowing them to build sand towers that remain intact even when submerged.

As they experimented with the unique properties of the sand, students were captivated by how nanotechnology influences real-world applications, from waterproof coatings to biomedical advancements. The experience was so engaging that many students asked where they could buy the sand to continue experimenting at home!

This particular activity was made possible through a Weber Parents Group Micro Grant, which supports innovative educational opportunities beyond standard classroom resources. These grants allow teachers to introduce creative enrichments—such as specialized materials, guest speakers, or field trips—enhancing the student learning experience in meaningful ways.
