Tisha B'Av Reflections

Weber students and faculty gathered for a meaningful Tisha B’Av reflection and learning session in the new Cohen-Kogen Beit Midrash. After discussing the holiday’s significance in the Jewish calendar, the group studied a Mishnah, exploring its teachings and their relevance to our current experiences. A powerful message emerged from the study: when our enemies turn Simchat Torah into Tisha B’Av, we must turn our Tisha B’Av into Simchat Torah—transforming moments of sorrow into opportunities for joy and renewal. The session also touched on Jewish traditions surrounding mourning, reminding us that while there are times when we refrain from celebrations, it is still possible to find the right moment to embrace joy.
